Video Friday: Heinricy's Cobalt Dance

The Turbocharged Cobalt SS is a force to be reckoned with on and off the track. However, on the track the SS shows its true strength and can really buckle down and dance with the best track day cars in its class. The car then becomes borderline unbeatable when racing legend John Heinricy decides he wants to take a seat in the new Cobalt and take it for a spin.

John even did us a favor and let us inside his head during the testing session by narrating his drive up, down and around the track. The video is worth the 9 minutes and 38 seconds it’ll cost you, especially when you see John put the pedal to the metal and go barreling along the straights at over 140mph. Check it out below:

I liked the video, but I am not sure why this is "news", as it was posted on YouTube by gmblogs over a year ago! GM sure didn't market the Cobalt SS/TC - a lot of people didn't know it existed, even the dealers and salespeople. I have a hard time explaining and convincing people on how my SS/TC is faster and handles better than my Mustang GT.

I found out that John's fastest time at Nordschleife in the SS/TC was 8:20, a full second slower than the 430+ hp 2010 Camaro SS: http://www.automobilemag.com/f...index.html

It really puts the capability of the SS/TC into perspective.

Love the vids!! I have been studying this video.. trying to learn from the best. Thank you GMTS for this. Please continue to impress us. Possible things to better the sight. Since you have so many leads in the performance/professional segment. Can you not only bring us the best coverage for our favorite GM cars, but also ways for them to help teach us the best way to handle our cars?? A forum of performance driving. Drag strip, road course, possible tricks with our cars... that could be dangerous, but fun.

Thank you.. keep up the good work and have fun!! smilies/cheesy.gif

I've heard from a VERY reliable source that a STG 2 2008 Cobalt SS did the ring in 7:59.45 That's smack on top of the CTS-v 21 seconds faster then stock, mostly dut the power and being able to do 165 on the straights... He said if the car had a small suspension upgrade such as lowering springs, it could easily run 7:56 or so...

Yes! a dominating Cobalt SS!!!! I just checked the skidpad numbers for the Camaro SS: 0.88g's -vs- the balts: 0.93g's.......

Sorry, that's 21 sec faster then a stock balt SS.... and 165 mph on the straightaways..... Could you imagine a 340 hp SS balt!!!

The only down side to this car is that if you upgrade the clutch you will lose the no-lift shift capability...... thereby slowing it down by 5%
